Fairmont Windsor Park With Kids: A Festive Family Escape Near London

For families looking for a luxurious country escape near London—particularly during the end-of-year festivities—Fairmont Windsor Park makes a wonderfully convenient base.

Set within 40 acres of parkland beside Windsor Great Park, the hotel combines country-house grandeur with a modern spa, family rooms, seasonal activities and easy access to some of the area's most popular Christmas experiences.

We stayed with our girls and particularly enjoyed the pool, children's play areas, the on-site Rococo Chocolates boutique and a beautiful afternoon tea in the Orchid Tea Room. During our visit, a local shepherd also demonstrated how his dogs herded sheep. The girls were completely captivated, and it became one of their favourite memories from the stay.

There was one important drawback: children can only use the pool during limited, pre-booked sessions. We understood the reason for protecting the spa's quieter hours, but the restrictions made family pool time less spontaneous than we would have liked.

Even with that limitation, Fairmont Windsor Park is an appealing choice for a festive family break—especially if you are visiting LaplandUK in Ascot, LEGOLAND at Christmas, Windsor Great Park Illuminated or the Adventure Play attraction at The Savill Garden.

UKI Travels at a glance: Best for a festive family weekend, a luxury base for Windsor's Christmas attractions and families who appreciate organised seasonal activities, afternoon tea and countryside space.

A luxury country hotel close to Windsor

Fairmont Windsor Park feels removed from city life without requiring a long journey. The hotel is near Windsor Great Park, within reach of Heathrow and approximately an hour from central London depending on traffic.

The landscaped grounds, lake and walking trail create a sense of escape. Families can explore the estate, visit the playground, join an activity and enjoy a special meal without leaving the property.

The location is particularly useful at the end of the year. Several major family attractions are nearby, so the hotel can turn a single festive event into a relaxed overnight break rather than a tiring day trip.

Why it works so well for the festive season

From November into early January, the Windsor area offers an unusually strong collection of family Christmas experiences. Fairmont Windsor Park gives parents a polished, comfortable base between them.

After an outdoor light trail or a long day at LEGOLAND, returning to a warm hotel, an elegant room and an easy dinner feels like part of the treat. The hotel's own festive programme can also include children's workshops, seasonal entertainment and special dining, although the exact activities change each year.

LaplandUK Ascot

LaplandUK's Ascot experience is one of the UK's most sought-after Christmas days out. Children enter an immersive elven world, take part in theatrical activities and eventually meet Father Christmas.

For 2026, the Ascot season runs from 7 November to Christmas Eve. Tickets are extremely limited and should be secured independently before booking a non-refundable hotel rate.

Fairmont Windsor Park is a convenient luxury option for families travelling to Ascot. Staying overnight removes some of the pressure from an early or late tour time and gives children somewhere calm to unwind afterwards.

LEGOLAND at Christmas

LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is approximately a 15-minute drive from the hotel, subject to traffic. Its 2026 Christmas event runs on selected dates from 21 November to 2 January 2027, with festive entertainment and a selected collection of rides and attractions.

Not every ride operates during the Christmas season, so review the published availability before promising a particular attraction. A Fairmont stay works well for families who want the excitement of LEGOLAND without sleeping in a fully themed hotel.

Windsor Great Park Illuminated

Windsor Great Park Illuminated transforms the woodland around The Savill Garden with lights, projections and illuminated fountains. The 2026 trail runs from 13 November to 3 January 2027, with timed entry and advance parking reservations.

It is an atmospheric evening for families, but remember that it is outdoors. Pack warm layers, waterproof shoes and a pushchair suitable for winter paths if needed. Returning to Fairmont for hot drinks and a comfortable bed completes the experience beautifully.

Windsor Great Park Adventure Play

The handcrafted Adventure Play area is beside The Savill Garden and offers a brilliant active outing for children. All visitors, including accompanying adults, require tickets, and advance booking is recommended.

Adventure Play is not exclusively a Christmas attraction, which makes it useful if your festive plans need a flexible daytime activity. Combine it with lunch near The Savill Garden or a walk through Windsor Great Park before returning to the hotel.

Rooms for families

Fairmont Windsor Park offers Double Double Rooms, interconnecting King Rooms, one- and two-bedroom suites and distinctive Treehouse Suites.

A Double Double Room may suit parents with younger children, while connecting rooms or suites offer more privacy and space. Confirm the maximum occupancy before booking and request cots, highchairs or connecting rooms in advance.

The hotel's style is calm and grown-up rather than overtly child-themed. We liked that balance: the girls had activities and play spaces, while the rooms still felt like a luxurious break for us.

The pool—and the limitation families must know

The indoor pool is beautiful and long enough for a proper swim. Our girls enjoyed it, but we were not crazy about the restricted access.

Children can swim only during designated morning and late-afternoon sessions. Bookings are required, capacity is limited and each child is generally permitted one session per day. Times can change during school holidays and busy periods.

The approach protects the quiet spa environment, but it reduces spontaneity. If an attraction finishes late or the children want to swim after lunch, you cannot necessarily head straight to the pool.

Our advice is simple: reserve your family swimming session as soon as your stay is confirmed and build the itinerary around it. Do not assume residents can use the pool at any time.

The outdoor Courtyard Vitality Pool is a hydrotherapy facility rather than a children's splash pool, so check precisely which facilities are open to younger guests.

Play areas and seasonal activities

Families can use the outdoor playground, board games, croquet and the woodland hideout at the end of the Wellness Walk. During school holidays, the hotel adds organised children's activities.

Past programmes have included crafts, baking, pony experiences, puppet shows, face painting, movie nights and other workshops. The offering is seasonal rather than a permanent daily kids' club, so request the programme for your dates before booking.

The sheepdog demonstration our girls loved

The highlight of our family programme was a visit from a local shepherd and his working dogs.

The girls watched the dogs respond to commands and guide the sheep around the grounds. It was entertaining, educational and perfectly suited to the country setting.

This was a special seasonal event, not a guaranteed daily activity. That is precisely why checking the programme matters: experiences like this can turn a pleasant hotel break into something children remember for years.

The chocolate shop

The hotel's on-site Rococo Chocolates boutique was, unsurprisingly, a favourite with our girls.

Choosing a chocolate treat became a small holiday ritual and added an element of fun to the otherwise sophisticated hotel. It is also useful for gifts or something sweet to take home.

Retail arrangements and opening hours can change, so confirm that the boutique will be open during your stay.

Afternoon tea in the Orchid Tea Room

Afternoon tea was one of our favourite experiences and an ideal match for a festive weekend.

Served in the elegant Orchid Tea Room, it includes delicate sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, seasonal pastries and a selection of teas. The atmosphere feels special without being unwelcoming to well-prepared young guests.

Our girls loved the occasion and, naturally, the sweet course. Seasonal menus may change throughout the year, making winter a particularly lovely time to visit.

Reserve in advance for weekends and school holidays. Mention children's requirements, allergies and dietary needs when booking.

Dining with children

The hotel has several restaurants and bars. The Windsor Brasserie provides an approachable option, while il Giardino at 1215 offers a more refined Italian experience. The Orchid Tea Room is ideal for afternoon tea and a daytime pause.

Children's menus are available in the hotel, but restaurant concepts and opening schedules can change. Reserve important meals before arrival, especially when weddings, corporate events and festive celebrations are taking place.

A two-night festive family itinerary

Day one: Arrive, explore the hotel and choose a treat from Rococo Chocolates. Attend a pre-booked afternoon swimming session, then have an early dinner.

Day two: Visit LaplandUK Ascot, LEGOLAND at Christmas or Adventure Play during the day. Return for a rest before Windsor Great Park Illuminated in the evening—or keep the evening relaxed with dinner at the hotel.

Departure day: Book a morning swim, enjoy breakfast and afternoon tea, or join one of the hotel's seasonal children's activities before travelling home.

Trying to combine LaplandUK, LEGOLAND and the illuminated trail in one weekend would be exhausting. Choose one headline attraction per day and leave time for the hotel.

Is Fairmont Windsor Park worth it for families?

Fairmont Windsor Park is a very good choice for families wanting a luxury base for the Windsor area's end-of-year festivities.

We loved the country setting, play areas, chocolate shop and beautiful afternoon tea. The sheepdog demonstration was a genuine highlight for our girls and showed how memorable the hotel's seasonal programme can be.

The restricted swimming arrangements were the main weakness. The pool is beautiful, but limited sessions require planning and may disappoint families expecting unrestricted access.

If you reserve the pool early and match your stay with the right festive attraction, the hotel offers an appealing balance: Christmas magic for the children, a comfortable base for parents and enough on-site experiences to make the hotel part of the celebration.
