Raffles Doha with Kids: The Ultimate Luxury Family Stopover in Qatar

Some stopover hotels are chosen simply because they are convenient. Raffles Doha is the kind of hotel that makes you want to extend the stopover.

Set inside the instantly recognisable Katara Towers in Lusail, this is one of the most extraordinary city hotels we have experienced as a family. From the moment we entered our beautiful marble suite, everything felt theatrical, polished and exceptionally luxurious. The bathrooms were more like private spas, with the best experience showers, while an integrated sound system seemed to wrap music around the room from speakers built discreetly into the walls.

The girls enjoyed the children’s club shared within the connected Raffles and Fairmont complex, while the choice of swimming pools gave us different ways to relax. Breakfast was exceptional, and the hotel’s varied restaurants made it possible to turn a short stay into a genuine food experience rather than simply somewhere to sleep between flights.

With Hamad International Airport around 25 minutes away, Raffles Doha is a brilliant option for families travelling through Qatar or connecting elsewhere in the Middle East, Asia, Africa or the Indian Ocean. It is undoubtedly extravagant—but if you want a stopover to feel like part of the holiday, this hotel delivers.

UKI Travels verdict: Raffles Doha is best for families seeking an ultra-luxurious Doha stopover, with spectacular suites, memorable bathrooms, outstanding breakfast, excellent dining and enough family facilities to make even a short stay feel special.

Why turn a Doha connection into a luxury stopover?

Long-haul travel with children can be exhausting, particularly when a journey involves an overnight connection or two lengthy flights. Breaking the trip in Doha gives everyone time to sleep properly, swim, eat well and recover before continuing.

Raffles Doha makes that practical pause feel like a destination in its own right. Rather than staying at the airport, families can experience Qatar’s modern architecture, waterfront setting and excellent food without committing to a full city break.

The hotel is located in Lusail City, inside the crescent-shaped Katara Towers. Hamad International Airport is approximately 25 minutes away in normal traffic, although families should allow more time during busy periods. The location is also convenient for Lusail Marina, Place Vendôme Mall, The Pearl-Qatar, Katara Cultural Village and West Bay.

For us, the appeal was simple: it was close enough to the airport to work as a stopover, yet sufficiently spectacular to become one of the highlights of the journey.

The rooms: marble, technology and serious luxury

The first thing we noticed was the sheer sense of space and craftsmanship. Our suite was filled with beautiful finishes, sculptural details and marble, yet it still felt comfortable enough for family life.

Raffles Doha’s accommodation is made up of suites rather than conventional hotel rooms. Even the entry categories are generously sized, with separate living areas in many suite types and furnished terraces overlooking the city, sea or distinctive crescent of the towers.

The marble bathroom was one of our favourite features. It felt like having a private spa inside the suite, with a deep bath, luxurious products and an exceptional experience shower. Selected suite categories also include their own steam room. After a flight—or before another one—this level of comfort feels particularly indulgent.

We also loved the technology. A tablet controlled elements of the room, while the built-in sound system allowed music to play through speakers integrated into the space. It was immersive without adding visible clutter and gave the suite a completely different atmosphere when we wanted to relax.

Families should ask about:

  • The most suitable suite for their party size

  • Connecting or multi-bedroom options

  • Extra beds and cot arrangements

  • Balcony safety and childproofing

  • Whether the chosen bathroom includes a steam room

  • Early check-in or late checkout for flight times

  • Airport transfers with the correct child seats

The larger signature suites accommodate up to three guests, while the extraordinary two-bedroom suites can suit bigger families. Do not rely on the maximum occupancy shown online without confirming the exact sleeping arrangement for every child.

Bathrooms that feel like private spas

Hotel bathrooms do not usually become one of the defining memories of a family trip, but these did.

The showers were among the best spa-style showers we have experienced in a hotel. Combined with the marble, large baths and steam-room features available in selected suites, the bathroom created a genuine wellness ritual without needing to leave the room.

This was especially valuable on a stopover. A long spa appointment may not be realistic when travelling with children or staying for only one night, but an extraordinary shower and private steam session can still make everyone feel restored after the journey.

Parents with very young children should note that marble can become slippery when wet, so close supervision is essential.

An amazing breakfast at L’Artisan

Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay.

L’Artisan serves the hotel’s refined breakfast experience each morning. The setting is elegant, but the food is what stayed with us: beautifully presented dishes, excellent ingredients and enough variety for the whole family.

After an early flight or a disrupted night of travel, a genuinely good breakfast can transform the mood of a stopover. We loved being able to sit down, slow the pace and enjoy the morning rather than rushing straight back to the airport.

L’Artisan currently serves breakfast until midday, which is particularly useful for jet-lagged families or those arriving late the previous evening. Opening hours can change, so confirm the latest schedule and whether breakfast is included in your rate.

If your onward flight is very early, ask about breakfast in the suite or a takeaway arrangement.

The shared kids’ club experience

The children’s facilities were another reason Raffles worked so well for us. During our stay, the girls used the kids’ club shared with the adjoining Fairmont Doha, giving families access to a dedicated space within the wider Katara Towers complex.

The club is designed for children up to the age of 12 and includes a carousel, climbing wall, yoga area, gaming stations, arts and crafts, storytelling and themed activities. Children under five need to be accompanied by a nanny, so parents of babies, toddlers and preschoolers should clarify the supervision rules before booking.

The hotel currently advertises daily opening hours from 10am to 7pm, but schedules and activities may change. Ask whether access is included in your room rate, whether reservations are required and which sessions will operate during your stopover.

Even during a short stay, the kids’ club gave the girls time to play and enjoy something designed specifically for them. It also allowed us to pause after travelling, which made the whole stopover feel more restorative.

Different swimming-pool options

Raffles Doha and the connected Katara Towers complex offer distinct pool settings rather than a single conventional hotel pool.

Raffles Pool

The private pool for resident Raffles guests offers cabanas, loungers, skyline and sea views, plus poolside refreshments. It is designed as the quieter, more exclusive choice.

At the time of publication, the hotel states that the Raffles Pool is temporarily closed for maintenance. Readers should contact the hotel directly for the reopening date rather than assuming it will be available.

Aqua

Aqua provides another glamorous pool-deck option overlooking the Arabian Gulf, with cabanas, a Mediterranean atmosphere and food and drinks available beside the water. Access rules can differ between resident guests, day visitors and special packages.

Because the options and access arrangements can change—particularly while maintenance is taking place—families should confirm which pools they may use, children’s hours and any minimum-spend requirements before booking.

During our stay, having a choice of pool experiences made it easier to fit swimming around meals, the kids’ club and our flight schedule.

Where to eat at Raffles Doha

The range of dining is part of what makes Raffles Doha more than an airport stop. Some venues are ideal for families, while others are better suited to an adults-only evening or a special occasion.

L’Artisan

The home of the hotel’s excellent breakfast. Its seasonal, carefully presented dishes make the first meal of the day feel like an occasion rather than a standard buffet stop.

Alba

Raffles Doha’s Michelin-starred northern Italian restaurant. Alba is the choice for a sophisticated dinner, celebrating seasonal ingredients and Italian flavours in an elegant setting. Its smart dress code and evening format may suit families with older children best.

Malaki Lounge

A palatial lounge serving Middle Eastern comfort food, coffee, tea and an elaborate Royal Afternoon Tea. It is a beautiful option when families want something lighter or more flexible than a formal restaurant dinner.

Aqua Doha

A relaxed pool-deck setting with a Mediterranean feel, Arabian Gulf views and all-day refreshments. This is one of the easiest choices for a casual family lunch.

Acoustic Music Penthouse

A dramatic rooftop venue with panoramic Doha views, live music, light bites and crafted drinks. Evening opening and entertainment make it more appropriate for adults or families with older children, subject to the venue’s current age policy.

Blue Cigar: The Writer’s Lounge

An atmospheric library lounge lined with rare books and designed for sophisticated drinks, lounge bites and cigars. As this is a cigar-focused evening venue requiring identification at entry, it is not the natural choice for young children.

Raffles Pool

Resident guests can normally order drinks and gourmet dishes beside the exclusive pool. This service depends on the pool’s reopening following its current temporary maintenance closure.

In-suite dining

Available around the clock, in-suite dining is invaluable during a family stopover. It brings dishes inspired by L’Artisan to the privacy of the suite or balcony—ideal when children are asleep, jet-lagged or simply too tired for another formal meal.

Restaurants, age policies, opening days and dress codes can change. Reserve important meals before arrival and tell the hotel about allergies or children’s dietary needs.

Raffles service makes a short stay easier

The hotel’s butler service is another advantage when time is limited. A good stopover should remove friction, and having help with luggage, dining reservations, room requests and onward arrangements allows families to focus on resting.

Before arriving, share your flight times, children’s ages, cot or bed requirements and transfer needs. Ask whether the team can arrange early access to the suite, particularly if you land in the morning.

For a one-night stay, advance planning matters. The hotel can feel overwhelming simply because there is so much to see, so choose a few priorities—perhaps breakfast, a swim and the kids’ club—rather than trying to experience everything.

A suggested one-night Doha family stopover

Arrival afternoon

Arrange a private transfer from Hamad International Airport and check into the suite. Give everyone time to explore the room, enjoy the remarkable shower and recover from the flight.

Late afternoon

Let the children visit the kids’ club or swim at the pool currently available to your family. Parents can unpack, rest or simply enjoy the suite and its integrated music system.

Evening

Choose a relaxed dinner at Malaki or Aqua, reserve Alba for a more formal occasion, or order in-suite dining if the children are exhausted.

Morning

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at L’Artisan. If the flight schedule permits, fit in another swim or a short visit to Place Vendôme, Lusail Marina or The Pearl before returning to the airport.

Extending the stopover to two nights

Two nights will allow families to experience more of Doha without rushing. Depending on the weather and children’s ages, add:

  • The National Museum of Qatar

  • Museum of Islamic Art

  • Souq Waqif

  • Katara Cultural Village

  • The Pearl-Qatar

  • Place Vendôme Mall

  • A walk around Lusail Marina

  • A desert or inland-sea excursion for older children

Ask the concierge to organise a route around your flight times, as traffic and opening hours can influence how much is realistic.

What families should know before booking

  • The airport is approximately 25 minutes away, but always allow additional time for traffic and check-in.

  • Confirm the current pool situation. The Raffles Pool is temporarily closed at the time of writing, with Aqua offered as an alternative.

  • Children under five need a nanny at the kids’ club. Ask about babysitting or accompaniment options in advance.

  • Check suite occupancy carefully. A spacious suite does not automatically mean it can accommodate every family configuration.

  • Ask about early arrival and late departure. These can substantially improve a stopover, although charges may apply.

  • Reserve restaurants in advance. Alba and evening venues may have dress codes, age restrictions or limited operating days.

  • Use in-suite dining strategically. It can be the most relaxing choice after a long flight.

  • Supervise children on marble floors and balconies. The finishes are beautiful but require sensible precautions.

Is Raffles Doha worth it for a family stopover?

Yes, if you want the stopover to feel like part of the holiday rather than a logistical necessity.

We loved the amazing breakfast, the shared kids’ club and the different pool experiences, but it was the suite itself that made the strongest impression. The marble interiors, private-spa feeling of the bathroom, extraordinary shower and integrated sound system created a level of luxury that was memorable even by Doha’s standards.

This is not the hotel we would choose simply to arrive late, sleep for six hours and leave before sunrise. Raffles Doha deserves enough time to enjoy it. With a full afternoon, evening and breakfast or ideally two nights, it turns a long journey into a luxurious family pause.

For anyone connecting through Doha on the way to another Middle Eastern destination, the Maldives, Asia, Africa or Australia, it is an exceptional place to rest, reset and begin the next stage of the trip feeling restored.
