Weekend in Prague
Located in Vltava River and the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague is a very walkable destination which combines historical and cultural destinations, making it a great weekend trip for anyone. We went during November and had alot of luck with a super snowy weekend which made the whole city even more romantic. It is definitely a nice getaway for any season.
What to Visit:
Old Town and Astronomical Clock
The old town is a great place to start your day, Apart from the really cool Astronomical Clock there are really kid friendly museums nearby like the Museum of Bricks which features thousands of built LEGO models, including detailed replicas of iconic Prague landmarks like the Charles Bridge. The Museum of Fantastic Illusions which is an interactive optical illusion gallery located near Wenceslas Square and has Shrink, float in mid-air, or step into upside-down rooms. And finally the Choco-Story: Prague Chocolate Museum where they can learn about the history of cocoa production through interactive displays and watch live chocolate making demonstrations by master chocolatiers and enjoy fresh samples.
You could spend at least half a day here. With spectacular views over the city and vineyards, visiting the monastery and finishing at the brewery, this is a must stop and we loved it.
When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart visited Prague in 1787, he toured the monastery and played the grand organ in the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady. The organist who invited him was so impressed by Mozart's improvisation that he noted it down for history. The libraries are incredible and have been the location for lots of famous movies, including Casino Royale, Amadeus, and From Hell.
The monks at Strahov have been brewing beer since at least 1400. Today, you can visit the onsite Strahov Monastic Brewery(Klášterní pivovar Strahov) right inside the monastery complex to drink craft beer named after St. Norbert, the founder of their order.
Located in Prague Castle, and standing at 96 meters high, it features a Gothic base topped with a Renaissance dome and spire added in the 16th century. It houses Zikmund, the largest church bell in the Czech Republic. It is also home to the Crown Jewels. Fun fact about the gargoyles at the front is that apparently modeled the ugly, scowling faces of the monsters after their own in-laws.
Created by Ferdinand Maxmilián Brokoff in 1714, my favourite part is the Statue of Saints John of Matha, Felix of Valois, and Ivan. Below the saints is a small prison dungeon with an iron grille containing imprisoned Christians (the kids really enjoyed this tid bit of information). To the left stands a infamous Turkish guard holding a scimitar and a whip, guarding the prisoners.
Where to Eat:
Restaurace Mlýnec - While the kids stayed with the grandparents we treated ourselves to a date night at this beautiful Michelin recommended restaurant with spectacular views.
Naše maso Dlouhá - fun experience of eating in a butcher shop. They make pretty good sandwiches and burgers. We ate the steak and the ham and really enjoyed it.
Ūvoz Restaurant - Great combination of cozy and amazing food. Would have returned probably if we weren’t there just two days.
Where to Stay:
This is where we stayed and it was a great location for walking around. It was a quiet historic former monastery nestled on cobblestones in peaceful Malá Strana. very close to Kampa Park playgrounds and Petřín Hill funicular, but not super child friendly for smaller kids. Definitely an option for history geeks and architecture enthusiasts/

Weekend brunches often feature a supervised kids’ corner and special treats.
Hidden location featuring Prague’s only private Baroque garden, set a short walk from Old Town with exceptionally spacious suites with separate living areas and kitchenettes. The massive private garden gives kids a safe, secure place to stretch their legs outdoors.
Ultra-luxury option right on the Vltava River next to Charles Bridge, blending historic and modern buildings, offering family programming including custom welcome gifts, localized children's storybooks, and connecting Renaissance rooms. The indoor swimming pool is also a great break from the tourism.
